LAPD statistics say violent crime in Hollywood is down 24 percent since 2011, but in the last 12 months there has been enough high-profile mayhem to create shocking headlines.

At the beginning of the summer, three panhandlers were fingered for allegedly stabbing a 23-year-old woman to death in broad daylight at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue. And there have been near-riots, other stabbings and at least one fatal shooting throughout the last year.

The latest attack took the life of a 23-year-old man over the weekend, cops say:

Cops responding to a report of a fight in the heart of clubland, at Hollywood Boulevard and Whitley Avenue, found the victim down and suffering from stab wounds, LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph told the Weekly.

The report came in about 2:30 a.m., not long after the bars closed Saturday night / Sunday morning, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead, Joseph said.

Cops had no suspects in custody and no description of the bad guy, he said.

The death comes after a rough 12 months for crime in the heart of the Hollywood tourist district.

On Labor Day weekend three people were stabbed, one fatally, in the area. In July teens rampaged down the boulevard. On June 18 the 23-year-old woman was fatally stabbed. In January a patron of the Empire Club was fatally shot outside the venue. And in October skateboarders who'd gathered at the scene of a skating documentary went on a rampage.
