The James Beard Foundation announced the 2016 nominees  this morning in San Francisco, and Los Angeles has a few nominees. The following L.A. chefs and restaurants are up for awards:

In the Best Chef in the West category, Providence's Michael Cimarusti, Rustic Canyon's Jeremy Fox and Animal's Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo are nominated.

Jon & Vinny's is nominated for a restaurant design award.

Osteria Mozza's Dahlia Narvaez is nominated in the Best Pastry Chef category.

Suzanne Goin is nominated (again) for Outstanding Chef.

Travis Lett is nominated for his cookbook Gjelina.

We had no nominees in many national award categories, including Rising Star Chef, Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Service and Outstanding Restaurant. If you're interested in the process or what I think L.A. needs to do in order to actually secure some awards, here's an essay I wrote on those topics back when the semifinalists were announced

You can see the entire list of nominees on the James Beard website. Good luck to all the nominees!
