Design Behind the Scenes, a costume exhibition from the new Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, will open in Los Angeles for public viewing from Monday, Jan. 6, through Friday, Jan. 17, at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Downtown LA.

Searchlight Pictures has partnered with ASU FIDM for a special immersive exhibit showcasing the costume designs from the film starring Timothée Chalamet by Academy Award-nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips.

The exhibit will feature a stunning display of the early 1960s, encompassing the evolution of the young  Dylan to the icon he becomes. Phillips’ exploration of Dylan’s iconic style evolution, from the precise cut of his Levi’s to the various jackets that defined his look, will be on full display as guests are offered a peek into the fashion that defined a generation.

The museum features a 15,000-piece collection that represents more than 400 years of fashion history, including haute couture and ready-to-wear, world dress, film costumes, accessories, jewelry, textiles, fragrance packaging, and ephemera. Part of the ASU FIDM fashion school, the museum fosters student learning, public engagement, and recognition of the creative arts and entertainment industries by providing access to the collections through exhibitions, publications, and other research opportunities.

“It has been my great privilege to have been invited by Jim Mangold to design the costumes for A Complete Unknown, especially since I grew up listening to Bob Dylan’s music which has been the soundtrack to my life,”   Phillips told LA Weekly via email. “It’s thrilling to be able to be part of bringing  his story to a new generation, who will get to discover this once-in-a-generation artist.”
