Geza X to Showcase Label at Redwood: This is a special party for iconic punk producer Geza X’s eponymous record label, and it promises to be a special event. Not least because Geza himself will be putting in a rare performance. Geza’s You Goddam Kids! album from way back in ’81 is an L.A. punk classic, and hopefully we’ll hear “Isotope Soap” at the Redwood. Also on the bill are the Magnet Hearts, Carnage Asada, Stompbox Holiday, Naughty Women, They Call Us Scoundrels, and Strychnine 99.

Geza spoke to us in 2019 and said of his career, “Darby Crash said that he was making a record for Slash [the punk label], so could I produce them. That was right before Don Bolles joined the Germs so Nickey Beat from the Weirdos was going to play drums on the record. They auditioned him in the men’s room. Darby was a cheerful kid with a death wish.”

When considering the many genre-defining records that X worked on, he picks the DK’s “Holiday in Cambodia” as his absolute favorite.

“I worked with them a lot more than some of the other bands,” he said. “[Jello] Biafra and I were excellent friends. The Screamers, for whom I was the soundman, went to San Francisco to play with them a lot. When I first heard the opening bit of ‘Holiday in Cambodia’ I was stunned. I would have done anything to record that song.”

The event takes place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 18 at the Redwood Bar and Grill.
