San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who pulled out of the state gubernatorial race, will likely officially announce that he'll run for lieutenant governor Friday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The paper states that he's been lining up donors and support for the run. He took out papers for the office Wednesday and will likely file them tomorrow. If he dives in, he'll be running against Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, who recently received the endorsement of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, another would-be gubernatorial candidate who shied away from the contest.
