Ex-Los Angeles Unified School District superintendent Ruben Zacarias pleaded no contest Thursday to “unlawfully displaying a badge” to a woman whom he pulled over in a bizarre incident last summer, the District Attorney's office reports.

Pomona Superior Court Judge David Brougham fined Zacarias $250, requested that the California Highway Patrol take the badge and turn it over to the Los Angeles Unified School District, and ordered Zacarias to pay a $100 restitution fee, deputy District Attorney Richard Ceballos stated.

The 81-year-old allegedly pulled a woman over on the 57 freeway in Pomona July 23 and told her he was “a cop,” using the school-district police badge as identification. CHP officers arrested him, and he was charged with unlawful use of a badge, a misdemeanor.

Why'd he do it? We'll probably never know. That Zacarias even had a school-district police badge is one of of the many odd mysteries of the LAUSD force (which also has a SWAT team).
