The story of a woman’s struggle to keep her and her friends alive in China’s forgotten AIDS villages.
XIMEI (2019, Directed by Andy Cohen, Executive Producer Ai Weiwei) is the documentary about a young Chinese woman, born in rural China in violation of the country’s one child policy, who fights for patients who contracted HIV/AIDS in the 1990s when millions of poor farmers sold their blood for money. Local officials try to terrorize Ximei into silence as she defends patients’ rights
The screening will be followed by Q&A with director Andy Cohen; China scholar Perry Link, Chancellorial Chair Professor at College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at the University of California, Riverside and Emeritus Professor of East Asian Studies at Princeton University; and Weiping Cui, an independent scholar and Professor of Beijing Film Academy
