Harold Lloyd in the original Thrill Comedy, plus Suzanne Lloyd in person, with Randy Haberkamp
Following their sold-out screening of Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush, Retroformat Silent Films will present two 35mm screenings of Harold Lloyd’s iconic masterpiece Safety Last! at the Hollywood Legion Theater at Post 43 on Saturday, March 28! Both screenings will be introduced by Suzanne Lloyd, Harold Lloyd’s granddaughter, with a discussion to be moderated by Randy Haberkamp, managing director of the Foundation and Preservation Program of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Live piano accompaniment will be provided at both shows by Retroformat musical director Cliff Retallick.
The specially priced Kid’s Matinee at 3 p.m. will make a perfect introduction to silent film comedy for families.
At the 7:30 p.m. show, Harold Lloyd’s granddaughter, Suzanne Lloyd, will deliver a special presentation of her grandfather’s home movies.
VIP tickets are available for the evening show, and include free parking, one free drink from the Legion bar, a walking tour of the historic American Legion Post 43, and a special tour of the Legion Theater projection booth (post-screening)!
Safety Last! is the original thrill-comedy by the man who invented the genre. The image of Harold Lloyd dangling from a giant clock over downtown L.A. is one of cinema’s most unforgettable moments, but that’s just one of its many delights. This screening represents a rare opportunity to see it projected in 35mm, its original format, at Hollywood’s breathtaking new Legion Theater.
Matinee prices are $20 for general admission and $12.50 for children under 12. General admission tickets for the evening show are $25. Veterans, seniors and students are $20, and children under 12 are discounted at $12.50. Limited VIP tickets are available for $40, which includes parking, drinks, tours and more. Free parking will be available across the street in the lot adjacent to the Hollywood Heritage Museum.
