L.A. philanthropist Eli Broad joined Twitter using the handle @UnreasonableEli to help publicize his new book The Art of Being Unreasonable: Lessons in Unconventional Thinking, which is being released by Wiley on May 8. He also started blogging at elibroad.com/blog.
In addition to being one of the world's biggest art collectors, Broad is founding chairman and a life trustee of MOCA, and, along with his wife, Edythe, the founder of the Broad Art Foundation, which is constructing the Broad, a museum on Grand Avenue.
On the blog, he writes that in 1954 Edythe gave him a paperweight with a George Bernard Shaw quote:
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
I owe much of my success over the last 60 years in the worlds of home building, financial services and philanthropy to the philosophy contained in that quote.
He writes that the blog will offer his take on everything from politics to L.A. happenings to how he spends his downtime.

Broad will be speaking at OTIS College of Art and Design's commencement on May 12, and at ALOUD at Los Angeles Central Library's Mark Taper Auditorium on May 22.
