16-Year-Old Fatally Injured in Semi-Truck Collision near Singley Hill Road

LOLETA, CA (March 12, 2024)Daniel Ramirez died Tuesday night and Guadalupe Ramirez was hurt in a semi-truck crash on Singley Road, near Singley Hill Road. The incident occurred at approximately 7:51 p.m.

Per reports, a 2017 Freightliner and a 2001 Nissan Frontier towing an empty double flatbed trailer collided in the area. The force of the impact resulted in the Nissan catching fire, trapping two individuals inside.

The driver of the Freightliner, 20-year-old Logan Morais, from McKinleyville, managed to rescue one of the Nissan’s occupants with the assistance of a bystander. Guadalupe, aged 65 and from Fortuna, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with severe injuries, while the other occupant, identified as 16-year-old Daniel, succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene.

Preliminary investigations by authorities have ruled out intoxication as a contributing factor. However, they have cited seating positions and adverse weather conditions as potential factors leading to the crash.
