If you, like the rest of Silver Lake, is heading to Coachella this weekend or next, then you no doubt already have most of your itinerary planned out: How you'll get there, where you'll stay, and — with the set times just released — what bands you'll see. To this, you might want to add what you plan to eat: As it has done over the last few years, the festival organizers are bringing in all sorts of fun vendors to keep you well fed. Because you really ought to eat something when you're in the middle of the desert.
A few highlights of your options: In the main food and beverage area of the festival grounds (The Terrace), you'll find vegetarian, vegan-, gluten- and raw-friendly options, plus Ruth Chris Steak House, Pink's and Eddie Huang's Baohaus (Taiwanese chicken!).
If you shelled out for the VIP wristband, the VIP sections will not only have VIP-type perks (“shaded areas, picnic tables, couches, extra restrooms”), but also food trucks (Border Grill, Coolhaus). And the campground area will have coffee, a cafe, pizza from Spicy Pie and a farmers market. Given all your choices, is planning what you'll eat easier than deciding what band you'll catch on Friday night? Maybe. Maybe not (i.e., go see Tegan and Sara).
For those of us who are officially too old or too tired to contend with heat and crowds and parking and thus will be staying local, it could be a good time to drop by a place like SQIRL, which may not be so busy on these two particular weekends. Over toast and jam and coffee, you can text your Coachella friends and remind them to eat and drink lots of water. And maybe to avoid using the portable restrooms after 7 p.m.
