34-Year-Old Rider Pronounced Dead after Motorcycle Accident near North Freeway

TUCSON, AZ (March 21, 2024)Carlos Jason Lopez died Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on West Saint Mary’s Road and North Freeway. Police officers responded to the scene around 12:10 p.m., on March 16th.

According to reports, Daniela Marquez-Batista, aged 33, was driving a blue 2024 Hyundai Tucson when she made a left turn at an intersection, colliding with 34-year-old Lopez who was riding a blue 2022 Genuine Scooter motorcycle.

Paramedics promptly arrived at the scene and transported Lopez, aged 34, to a nearby hospital. There, he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators noted that Lopez was wearing a helmet but did not possess a valid license and registration.

Marquez-Bautista underwent examination by authorities, displaying no signs of impairment. She was initially arrested on a charge of traffic violation causing death but was subsequently released. The crash was determined to be caused by Marquez-Bautista’s failure to yield right-of-way, with investigations ongoing.
