Over in The Weekly's news blog — yes, we care about who you vote for as much as what you eat, at least sometimes — Dennis Romero reports that Steve Lopez has been doing some numbers crunching about the money spent on the gubernatorial race. It seems that the $140 million that Meg Whitman has put into her own ad campaign could have gone to a lot of other worthy causes. Like pizza.

Specifically, that money could have provided two medium Domino's pizzas, with two toppings on each one, to every household in California. For more on this, check out Romero's story in The Informer. On why Lopez converted the money into pies and not, say, public school home ec classes or functional roads for those pizza delivery drivers (Lopez does suggest mental health services and small businesses as viable alternatives) maybe ask him.
