A statewide COVID-19 vaccine order kicked in Tuesday for indoor events holding 1,000 or more people.

The state has labeled them “mega events,” and include arenas where professional sports teams play, high-capacity theaters, music venues, expos and conferences.

Venues such as Staples Center and The Forum in Inglewood have already informed fans of the requirements for upcoming games and events.

“We have worked closely with state and local health officials to responsibly and thoughtfully implement new safety protocols to provide you not only a safe, but enjoyable experience,” Staples Center announced in a release. “We look forward to giving you a reason to cheer and creating unforgettable memories with you, once again.”

The new rules will require guests to show either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test that was taken within 72 hours of the event.

Proof includes a physical vaccine card, a photo of a vaccine card, or a QR code for the vaccine verification.

“Self-attestation can no longer be used to verify an attendee’s status as fully vaccinated or as proof of a negative COVID-19 test result,” L.A. Public Health said in a release Tuesday.

A similar vaccine requirement was instituted by L.A. County on August 18 and will continue in alignment with the state’s measures.

Children under 13 who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated will be required to take a COVID-19 test, as well.

L.A. County announced it would roll out a similar vaccine requirement for outdoor “mega events” of more than 10,000 people, which guests needing to show proof of vaccination or a negative test, starting October 7.

Also in the L.A. County order, indoor bars, wineries, night clubs and lounges will require guests to show proof of vaccination, with employees of these establishments needing to be fully vaccinated by November 4.
