Celebrate Joy Division all you want, but my money goes on Wire as the greatest of the post-punk bands (ask me on a different day and I'll tell you the Fall). The only difference is a suicide, and a bigger focus on minimalism (okay, not the only difference). Want proof as to the genius of Wire? See below.

They're playing the Echoplex on October 14, and though co-founder Bruce Gilbert is probably not touring (he hasn't for a while), the bonus is that under-appreciated Laika guitarist Margaret Fiedler McGinnis is filling in. Like Wire, Laika, which rose with Stereolab and PJ Harvey out of England's Too Pure scene, never got the kudos they deserved. It'll be nice to see them paired.
