Last year, Bon Appétit ran a slideshow of the best pictures of holiday desserts from national food bloggers. It was, to put it mildly, a rather popular slideshow. This year, they're going one better and holding a contest: the Bon Appétit Blog Envy Bake-Off. Anyone with a food blog can enter (although you do have to be in this country). All you have to do is bake your favorite holiday dessert, post the recipe on your blog, and submit a picture of the dessert to the magazine (baupload@bonappetit.com). “The quality of photography in food blogs is unbelievable,” says Bon Appétit executive editor Victoria von Biel. “There's a real spirit of competition.” Bon Appétit's test kitchen will test the 5 top recipes, which will be judged by a panel including Bon Appétit editor-in-chief Barbara Fairchild, Bon Appétit restaurant editor Andrew Knowlton, and celebrated pastry chef François Payard.

Bon Appétit is also throwing a party and inviting any bloggers who can make the trip to come to New York with their desserts in tow for a separate judging. Hey, how much do you think it would be worth to present Payard with a plate of your homemade Christmas cookies? More than airfare. Voting has begun, and as of this morning over 40 entries have already been submitted. The blogger party will be held in New York on December 10th, and the contest will end December 13th. Start baking.
