A fourth-tier '80s drama behind Dynasty, Dallas and Knots Landing, CBS' Falcon Crest never had a cliffhanger like J.R.'s shooting or a villainess like Joan Collins, but it had all the essentials of the decade's primetime soaps: family feuds, a Bill Conti score and guest spots by Hollywood legends (Cesar Romero, Lana Turner, Kim Novak) who mostly went there to die. In Falcon Crest's case, the rivalry revolved around tyrannical matriarch and Napa Valley winery owner Angela Channing (the late Jane Wyman and former Mrs. Ronald Regan) and anyone who dared to cross her helmet hair and shoulder pads. After a 20-year commercial break, the Paley Center's Falcon Crest: A Look Back gathers cast and crew — including creator Earl Hamner, Susan Sullivan (Maggie Gioberti), David Selby (Richard Channing) and Lorenzo Lamas (Lance Cumson) — to talk sour grapes.
