When Joe Pytka's Melrose Place restaurant Bastide reopens next month, chef Joseph Mahon will be the one behind the stoves. Mahon, who is now at 208 Rodeo, is leaving the Beverly Hills restaurant to run Bastide, which will reopen late November as a more casual restaurant than its last incarnation. It won't necessarily be a bistro, according to Pykta's assistant, Tara Fitzpatrick, who confirmed Mahon's hiring this morning, but it might be.

The restaurant's name is also still being decided, as it may reference the name of the Assouline bookstore that will also occupy the space. As for the rumors (here incorrectly confirmed) that Jérôme Voltat was to be Bastide's new chef, Fitzpatrick said that the former L'Orangerie chef had been considered for the position. (Sources can be wrong; just ask the government.)

Bastide: 8475 Melrose Place, West Hollywood; (323) 651-5950.
