The accolades just keep pouring in for Ari Taymor, chef/co-owner at Alma. After his restaurant was named Best New Restaurant in America by Bon Appetit last August, now the other big national food magazine has weighed in, this morning naming Taymor one of Food & Wine's Best New Chefs for 2014.
Food & Wine editor in chief Dana Cowin announced the Best New Chefs beginning at 7 a.m. PST by posting selfies with each of them on her Instagram feed (here's her selfie with Taymor).
The other Best New Chefs are Justin Yu from Oxheart in Houston; Cara Stadler from Tao Yuan in Brunswick, ME; Greg Denton from Ox in Portland, OR; Matthew Accarrino from SPQR in San Francisco; Paul Qui from Qui in Austin; Eli Kulp from Fork in Philadelphia; Dave Beran from Next in Chicago; Matt McCallister from FT33 in Dallas; and Walker Stern and Joe Ogrodnek from Dover in Brooklyn.]
The Best New Chef title can do wonders for a young chef's career, as evidenced by Ricardo Zarate, who held the honor in 2011, and Roy Choi, who was a Best New Chef in 2010.
Tomorrow, Food & Wine will reveal the winners of the People's Best New Chefs, which were voted on by the public.
Congrats to Taymor, and also to his co-owner Ashleigh Parsons, who Taymor had this reminder about yesterday:
