We saw all kinds of attendees at Adultcon yesterday – groups of men, groups of women, male-female couples, lone wolves – but the most common configuration was what we'll call Two Straight Dudes. Just what is it about an adult entertainment expo that makes a man want to invite one, and only one, of his buddies?

We've got limited experience with strip clubs (promise!), but we can attest there's something a little weird about going to a strip club with just one other dude. Add a couple more guys, and you've got a bachelor party. Subtract one, and hopefully you're in a strange town on a business trip. But with just two guys, it seems a little homoerotic to know your buddy's getting turned on one chair away from you. Not that we have a problem with that, but there's definitely something there.

So why the prevalence of Two Straight Dudes at Adultcon? There's less outright eroticism at the expo than at a strip club, but it's definitely a pornotastic event. Are there lots of Two Straight Dudes because no one wants to go alone and bigger groups are tough to coordinate? Or are there larger notions of masculinity at play here?

We're not sure. But these questions definitely got us thinking about numbers.
