It seems the Met Gala isn’t quite as exclusive as it used to be — or at least, that’s what many are saying after Camilla Araujo revealed that she was invited to the celebrity-filled Met Gala.
The Met Gala is known as one of the biggest fashion events of the year, though it began as a simple annual charity gala to benefit the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It happens on the first Monday in May, which coincides with the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition. At the event, some of the biggest stars in the world wear elaborate costumes and walk the red carpet. But many are saying that the event is going downhill with people like Araujo in attendance.
Why are they so outraged by Araujo’s attendance? Because she’s an OnlyFans model who makes over $1 million a month on the platform thanks to her collaboration with other early twenty-something women in the infamous Bop House, and some people think her attendance is demeaning to such a fancy event.
Araujo’s 3 million followers on Instagram had some thoughts to share after she posted a video of her dancing down the stairs of her private jet that had just landed in New York City. She was wearing grey sweatpants and slippers and captioned the video “Hello Met Gala.”
One viewer said: “Met Gala used to be exclusive, now they’re letting anyone in.”
“So there’s just no quality control?” another person added.
Another viewer continued the concern, sharing: “’Why on earth would she be at the Met Gala? Goodbye.”
One critic added, “So they’re just letting any influencer attend now?” while another said “Camilla, I love you but creators do not belong at the Met.”
While another clip showed her walking a red carpet in a long black gown, it seems she didn’t actually attend the Met Gala because she wasn’t actually inviated to the exclusive event, despite being spotted leaving the Mark Hotel where actual A-listers including Cynthia Erivo, Sabrina Carpenter, and Jenna Ortega were also spotted.
Instead, Araujo was invited to an after party for the big event, a much less exclusive invitation to receive.
That isn’t stopping Araujo from claiming that she “manifested” this invite. The OnlyFans model had previously said “It’ll be game-changing when people start taking a chance on OnlyFans creators and realize how smart we truly are to be this successful. And I promise you, I will be the one. I refuse to not be the one to break into mainstream media. I am slowly doing it. Watch me – I will be at the Met Gala. I will be at the Emmy Awards. I will be more than some bimbo that you think I am.”
Araujo continued: “We [OnlyFans stars] are so business minded and we’re so smart. Brands, people, and companies not being willing to work with us because of what we do is stupid, in my opinion. If I was such an idiot and a bimbo, [do] you think I’d be this successful?”
You have to give her credit for her ability to capitalize on the situation. She managed to turn a simple invite to an afterparty into a headline-worthy event. Even if it wasn’t quite as good as attending the Met Gala, Araujo is sure to make the most of this opportunity.
