Chris Brown was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon this afternoon, Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Chris Ramirez told reporters. It happened after he was questioned by police who had surrounded his home, where a small party turned into a reported emergency overnight.*

Police were called to Brown's home in the 5000 block of Corbin Avenue in Tarzana at 3:11 a.m. after a woman called “requesting help,” LAPD media relations officer Drake Madison said.

“Since then it's been verified it was Chris Brown's house,” he said.

Police surrounded the compound for more than 10 hours. The LAPD's elite Robbery-Homicide Division took over the situation, Madison said. At the same time, the department had requested a warrant to enter the home, he said. Later, that warrant was served, police said, and people began filing out of the home.

Earlier, as police initially responded to the compound, Brown apparently refused to come out. He videotaped multiple clips and posted them on Instagram (below).

TMZ reported that the woman who called authorities is an actress named Baylee Curran. She told the site that she was at a gathering at the house when she marveled at the jewelry of a fellow guest. That guest and Brown became upset, and the singer allegedly threatened her with a gun. “Get the f—- out,” she quoted Brown as saying.

Curran said people inside the home took her phone and held it in an attempt to get her to sign a nondisclosure agreement, which she said she did not sign.

Police initially*said they could not confirm that a gun was allegedly brandished. TMZ also reported that a duffle bag containing “weapons” and “drugs” was thrown from a window during the standoff.

Ramirez told reporters he couldn't confirm exactly what happened “until everybody's been interviewed.” Brown's celebrity attorney, Mark Geragos, was at the compound this afternoon, TMZ reported.

Brown's earlier social media rants included criticism of cops.

“When you get the warrant, whatever you need, you gonna walk right up in here, and you gonna see nothing, you idiots,'' he said. “I'm tired of (expletive) dealing with you all. Y'all the worst gang in the world, the police.''

He said he was asleep when officers surrounded his home.

“So I'm asleep half the damn night, I just wake up, all these (expletive) helicopter choppers is around,'' he said. “There are police out there at the gate. … What the (expletive) else do you want from me, bro? I stay out of the way.”

In February 2009 Brown had one of his several run-ins with the L.A. justice system when he was arrested for allegedly beating fellow pop star Rihanna during an argument in a rented Lamborghini following a pre–Grammy Awards party. Brown took a felony plea deal and was ordered to stay away from Rihanna and to perform community service.
