A British playwright has written a play about the sex marathon that captured international attention in January.
If you were one of the millions of people who couldn’t look away from the train wreck that was Bonnie Blue’s 1,000 men in a day stunt, good news! A new stage play is being developed by a British playwright about the sex stunts that content creators like Lily Phillips and Bonnie Blue have shared on their OnlyFans pages.
Issy Knowles is a rising star in the British playwriting scene. She’s a former Brit List winner and is developing a one-woman play based on the viral sex stunts that OnlyFans creators participate in. Knowles intends to perform the play herself, rather than selecting another actor to tackle the dark comedy she’s titled Body Count.
Body Count follows the journey of Polly, who is not based on any one creator in particular. She’s a content creator who was raised Catholic but decides she needs to make some cash quickly after a failed career in consulting. Throughout the play, the audience will also meet 10 men who line up for the opportunity to have sex with Polly.
Knowles is using the work to discuss the meaning of sex and to explore why people have such deeply intense reactions to sex workers like Bonnie Blue and Lily Phillips. Knowles wants her work to push for understanding why women in particular have such a strong dislike for adult content creators who participate in shocking sex stunts. Says Knowles, “We know how it feels to be objectified, and we can’t help but put ourselves into that scenario and see this queue of men, and inherently feel like we understand.”
Body Count also explores the double standards that women face when it comes to sex. Knowles has said that women are typically held to a higher standard when it comes to sexual behavior. Where men are often celebrated for having multiple partners, women are looked down upon for enjoying sex with more than one person. Knowles hasn’t consulted with any OnlyFans creators for this play, drawing instead on her own sexual experiences and interactions with sex workers. She hopes that she’s created something that content creators will be able to enjoy and relate to.
Body Count is currently slated to preview at Seven Dials Playhouse in Covent Garden in London from July 18th – 19th. The official premiere is in Edinburgh’s Pleasance Courtyard from July 31st – August 25th.
