56-Year-Old Gilroy Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Roosevelt Avenue

SAN MARTIN, CA (May 7, 2024) – One man died early Tuesday morning in a pedestrian collision on southbound Monterey Road near Roosevelt Avenue.

The incident happened at approximately 5:20 a.m., on April 23rd.

Upon arrival, officials discovered a 56-year-old man down on the southbound lanes. According to investigators, the man was crossing the road when he was struck by a 1998 Ford Windstar driven by a 55-year-old man from Morgan Hill.

Medical personnel pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene, withholding his identity and place of residence pending notification of his next of kin. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford remained present and fully cooperated with the inquiry.

Initial assessments by officers suggest that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and witnesses are urged to reach out to the CHP Hollister-Gilroy Office at (408) 427-0700.
