74-Year-Old Woman Killed, One Critically Injured in Pedestrian Crash near Adams Boulevard

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 7, 2024)Estella Gomez was killed, and Maria Ortiz was hurt Thursday afternoon in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Magnolia Avenue. The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m., near Adams Boulevard. The LAPD reported that an unknown van collided with two individuals while reversing out of a property in the area. Upon impact, the driver neglected to assist the pedestrians and fled the scene. One of the women, identified as 74-year-old Estella Melani Gomez, succumbed to her injuries on-site, while the other victim, Maria Ortiz, believed to be in her 90s, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of severe injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect’s vehicle was last observed heading eastbound on West 2nd Street. Eyewitnesses to the hit-and-run incident on Magnolia Avenue are urged to reach out to the Los Angeles Police Department with any information. The family of Gomez started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses during this time.
