(Corrected at 1:30 a.m. Sunday; Updated at 4:30 p.m. Sunday): A woman was fatally shot in Silver Lake Saturday night, police said. The Eastsider LA reports the woman was shot in the arm and injured during a 9:40 p.m. attempted robbery in an area known for its restaurants and bars.

The shooting happened as the suspect tried unsuccessfully to take her purse outside Cha Cha Lounge, at 2375 Glendale Blvd., and opened fire, police said. The woman was described as a 32-year-old. The suspect remained at large.

At least one neighbor contends (via LAist) the attempt is one in a string of five recent robberies in Silver Lake that has been kept under wraps by the Los Angeles Police Department.

While it's an area long occupied by gangs, shootings in the area, like one in February that caused no injuries, sure get the community talking.
