We are a generation of diners where the phone eats first. It’s just common courtesy and an automatic reaction to push the chair back and hold off digging into a meal until everybody has taken their glamorized smart phone snaps. Food is sexy, sensual and sparks satisfying intercourse at the table and elsewhere.

Strawberry tres leches cake (Hector Mendoza)

The term “food porn” was coined by feminist critic Rosalind Coward in her 1984 book, Female Desire: Women’s Sexuality Today:

“When slimmers gaze at glossy pictures of luscious foods, are they taking pleasure in the supposedly forbidden? Why is our ideal for the female form so uncompromisingly adolescent? Has fiction seen a sexual revolution or has pornography merely merged with mainstream fiction. Food pornography exactly sustains these meanings relating to the preparation of food. The kinds of picture used always repress the process of production of a meal. They are always beautifully lit, often touched up.”

pastrami sandwich at the original hat 653162

This is the ”pastrami wet fries” which is a mountain of fresh hot French fries ladled with two scoops of velvety brown beef gravy and then topped with a mountain of fresh pastrami ribbons. I opt to get a small side of their chili just to make it a bit over the top (Ohmar Go)
