One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting in West Los Angeles a couple miles south of Beverly Hills today.
The attack in an alley near South Garth and Cadillac avenues was reported at 12:12 p.m., LAPD Officer Sara Faden told the Weekly.
Someone wearing dark clothing walked up and opened fire, she said:
The victims were taken by a private vehicle to a hospital, where of the two was pronounced dead, police said. (Kaiser's West L.A. facility is only a few blocks away).
The surviving victim was said to be in stable condition, Faden said.
The suspect fled in a black vehicle, she said.
The area, also known as La Cienega Heights, is home to the Playboy Gangster Crips gang and has seen many shootings in the past.
The organization's enemies include the Shorline Crips in Venice and the Mansfield Crips just to the east, in Mid-City.
The attack was first reported by Venice 311.
We were told by a source that police believe the violence was indeed gang-related.
