The leading young lady at the head of a pack of about 30 partygoers was fatally hit by what is believed to have been a gray or black Bentley just before midnight last night. The unidentified twentysomething was crossing the street near the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, City News Service reports.

Her covered body remained at the scene of the hit-and-run crime early into the morning. Our condolences to all family and friends that survive her.

After plowing through the crosswalk at Hammond Street and Sunset Boulevard — going 45 in a 30 zone — the mystery driver sped off into the night.

As of 6 a.m., City News Service reported that Sunset remained closed between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard.

Eerily, the young death occurred only one week after 12-year-old Emely Aleman was fatally hit on a crosswalk just a few miles away in North Hollywood. Aleman had gone out that evening to buy food for her pet fish, when a Jeep Wrangler barreled through the intersection at Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Archwood Street, throwing the girl almost 50 feet. Her sister was also injured.

Unlike the driver of the alleged Bentley last night, the driver of the Jeep Wrangler quickly jumped out to help the girls.

Update: A charcoal-gray Bentley with front-end damage was spotted in

a neighborhood near La Cienega Boulevard and Melrose Avenue this afternoon. Investigators told KNX radio they believe the vehicle was involved in the crime.

According to City News Service, the victim has also been identified: 21-year-old Hollywood resident Lauren Ann Freeman.
