When Kantaro Inagaki first set out to walk across Japan, he didn’t know his journey would soon become one of the most heartwarming travel stories on the internet. What began as a solo mission to reconnect with his homeland turned into a shared adventure—thanks to an unexpected meeting with a small Shiba Inu puppy named San.
Inagaki is no stranger to travel or attention. A Japanese content creator and social media personality, he documents his daily life to over 2 million Instagram followers, 400,000 TikTok fans, and a growing YouTube audience. But what sets his content apart isn’t flashy editing or viral trends—it’s sincerity. He walks from city to city, village to village, with nothing but a backpack, a camera, and now, San-Chan by his side.
“Walking across Japan started as a simple thought,” Inagaki said in an interview with Upworthy. “I was curious about what would happen if I tried it.” He wanted to explore his home country in the most direct and human way possible: on foot. The plan? To see what Japan could show him if he simply kept moving forward.

He started in early 2024, and more than 250 days later, he had covered thousands of kilometers, capturing everything from remote countryside landscapes to the pulse of major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. Inagaki’s approach to travel is rooted in what he calls “genuine curiosity”—a mindset he believes people have lost in the digital age. “I’ve always valued following my instincts,” he said. “That’s how you find something real.”
It was that same instinct that led him to San.
On day 250 of his journey, Inagaki was preparing to leave Beppu City when he spotted a handwritten sign outside a small home: “Shiba Inu puppies have been born.” Intrigued, he stopped in and met a litter of tiny pups. One caught his eye—fluffy, brown, and calm. He looked into her eyes and instantly felt a connection.
But he didn’t adopt her. Not yet.
“I walked away,” he said. “I thought maybe it wasn’t the right time.”
But over the next five days, he couldn’t get her out of his mind. Something had shifted. “I kept thinking about her. I realized I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t go back and take her in now.”
So on day 256, he returned to Beppu—and San was still there. He adopted her on the spot. Since then, they’ve been inseparable.

Their journey has captured hearts all over the world. Fans watch as San rides in Inagaki’s jacket pocket through mountain trails, rice fields, and seaside towns. Inagaki continues to share his adventures not just to show off beautiful locations, but to encourage others to explore their own corners of the world—with curiosity, kindness, and maybe even a furry companion.
To bring fans closer to the journey, Inagaki also launched the San-Chan crypto project, described as “a heartwarming meme project on the Solana blockchain.” It’s designed to let supporters celebrate the emotional moments of their travels and grow a community around joy, exploration, and the love of animals. Through the San-Chan Portal and a Telegram channel, fans get updates, exclusive content, and a way to stay involved in the story—even from thousands of miles away.
“This is more than a travel vlog,” Inagaki says. “It’s about creating connection—between people, places, and moments that matter.”
Whether it’s through his digital content, blockchain-based projects, or the simple act of sharing his walks, Inagaki is building something bigger than a following. He’s building a movement grounded in discovery, simplicity, and heart.
As he continues to walk across Japan with San nestled by his side, Inagaki’s message remains clear: slow down, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to follow the path that calls to you—even if it leads somewhere unexpected.
