Two people were arrested in the fatal of a shooting of a man who was found on the campus of Los Angeles Valley College over the weekend. The crime was the result of a “drug deal rip-off,” sheriff's officials stated overnight.

The arrests were announced by the Community College Bureau of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. The two suspects were identified as Raheen Taylor, 31, and Derrick Wilson, 25, who were found at a San Jacinto apartment along with two guns, drugs and a vehicle, deputies said.

Sheriff's officials emphasized earlier that …

… the attack was not connected to the college. “The choice of the college parking lot at Fulton Ave. and Burbank Blvd in Valley Glen in the San Fernando Valley was random,” the sheriff's department stated.

There were no classes or activities on campus at the time, deputies said.

The 31-year-old victim, identified overnight as Ricardo Zetino of Tujunga, was found outside a pickup truck that appeared to have gone out of control before stopping at an angle on a campus street.

The LAPD became aware of the crime after receiving a call of shots fired at the Valley Glen campus about 7:25 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's officials said. The victim, who had been shot multiple times, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, they said.

Sheriff's detectives took over the investigation, citing jurisdiction over community college campuses in the county.

The suspects were arrested Sunday in the Riverside County community, deputies said:

A search warrant was executed by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators at the San Jacinto residence and two revolvers were recovered, along with other ballistic evidence. An undetermined amount of illegal drugs were also seized, as well as the suspects' vehicle, which is believed to have been used during the murder.

The men were being held without bail, the department stated. The two were due in court Tuesday.
