UPDATE at 3:26 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2016: A nonprofit group has started a petition that asks the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove Trump's star. See our story about it here.
The story that Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame might be removed because it was being defiled so consistently is, unfortunately, untrue.
The tease of a report came from unreliable sources over the weekend.
While it appears to be true that people have vandalized the star with spray-painted images (a swastika, a mute symbol), and that a dog defecated on it (see image, below), the possibility of the star's removal is slight to nil.
Leron Gubler, president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which awards and maintains the stars on the Walk of Fame, said in a statement sent to the Weekly today that any such removal would be unprecedented.
“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark,” he said. “Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk.”
Sorry to dash your hopes.
Trump is a virtual pariah in Los Angeles, a city of transplants where about half of us are Latino. Trump's claim that Mexican immigrants are criminals and rapists probably did him in here in June. But then he said Muslims immigrants should be banned from America. And he said women who have abortions should be punished.
He's a man after Angelenos' hearts.
The stars — which require cash for installation and maintenance — are usually paid for by third parties. Trump got his in 2007 for his work as producer of the Miss Universe pageants.*
It's in the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard. Pay your respects.
My friend's service dog accidentally took a shit on Donald Trump's Hollywood star.
