Two men were stabbed in a brawl between security guards at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival over the weekend, police said.

“At the time of the incident the venue was not open,” Sgt. Dan Marshall of the Indio Police Department told us. “And the area where this took place was completely back-of-house.”

In other words, no Coachella fans appeared to be in danger.

The brawl was reported at 10:25 a.m. Sunday at the security check-in area of the iconic music festival, the department said in a statement.

“The initial investigation uncovered that there was a verbal dispute between two different groups of individuals employed by the same security vendor working at the festival that escalated into a physical altercation,” Indio police stated.

One of the victims suffered injuries to his head and face, cops said. He was hospitalized and released, they said.

“The second victim received a stab wound to his abdomen and was admitted for observation and is currently in good condition,” the police statement says.

The weapon was a pocket knife, Marshall told us. It's not clear if there was one stabber or multiple suspects, he said. No arrests had been made.

There were witnesses to the brawl, Marshall said. Still, detectives are looking for tips about the fight. Anyone with information was asked to call 760-391-4057.

Coachella, headlined by NWA and Guns N' Roses reunions, sold out for a capacity crowd of 99,000 during two three-day weekends this year.
