Jack Black, the less round member of Tenacious D and star of the upcoming Gulliver's Travels just dropped a measly $5,965,000 for Red Hot Chili Pepper (and Big Lebowski nihilis) Flea's Los Feliz area house. Whether Flea just wanted to scale down to just his Malibu residence, which was once up for sale at $13 mil in 2009 even after being “burnt to a crisp in 2007” or perhaps the two discussed it back stage at the Pixies Concert, we will just never know. According to the Los Angeles Times, the two-story house has seven bedrooms, three bathrooms, and 6,500 square feet of living space. That's plenty of space for Black to roll around on the floor or play air guitar in. Flea's real estate sale got us thinking about some of the other musicians who put their mansions up for sale last year. Here are our favorite musicians' mansions up for sale last year:
10. Britney Spears
Price: $6,750,000
Beds: 5
Baths: 6.0
Finished Sqft: 7,453
Features: Double-height living room, office, media room and attached maid's quarters. . It's reportedly in the same neighborhood as Gwen Stefani, so maybe Miss Spears can wander over to Mr. and Mrs. Rossdale for some pointers on staying sane in the music biz.
9. Perry Farrell
Location: Venice
Price: $1.6 million (sold)
From the original listing: “ARCHITECTURE BY STEVEN EHRLICH, FAIA; The Farrell House, a radical transformation of a typical California bungalow. The 2200 (approx. ) sqft residence packs powerful ideas in a deceptively simple frame. The building~s footprint is a straightforward rectangular box cut away to incorporate an existing lap pool. The most prominent feature is a two story barrel vault that runs the length of the structure and includes a Loft bedroom/office; 2 Bedrooms downstairs; 2 Baths and roof top terrace. Unique in nature the house was designed for a rock musician and takes advantage of Southern California~s weather. As a result a sense of openness predominates. A glass wall slides completely away into a wall pocket to remove the barrier between interior and exterior. The owner embraced non-Western cultural influences, resulting in simplicity, tranquility and responsiveness to nature. A 3 car garage w/ alley access makes a great artist studio.” *bolding added for WTFness.
8. Christina Aguilera
Location: Hollywood Hills
Price: $6.25 million
Features: 1,200-square-foot master bedroom suite, a screening room that seats 18, a gym, a pool and a 12-person spa. 6,500-square-foot house
Aguilera has been trying to sell her Hollywood place since 2007 when she and her (now ex) husband bought Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne's house in Bev Hills. Now that she's kicked Jordan Bratman out of the house, maybe she'll move into a quaint 1 bedroom guest house that's infested with spiders and has two wrecked cars in the backyard. And yes, I'm looking for a burlesque-trained roomate, Xtina! 😉
7. Mike Ness of Social Distortion
Location: Lemon Heights, North Tustin in Orange County
Asking Price: $1,800,000 (lowered from $2,100,000)
The deal: “The 4,000-square foot, gated house was built in 1924. It has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths and sits on half an acre, with sweeping views.” [Almost 2 mill for a house if effing Tustin in the OC. That's Social Extorsion!]
Added bonuses: Wine Cellar, no sense of irony.
AND….
Location: Newport Beach
Price: $1,295,000, or $637 a square foot .
The Deal: “The 2,033-square foot house on a 2,450-square-foot lot with 3 bedrooms and 1 bath.”
6. Beck
Location: Malibu
Price: $1.65 million (sold)
SIZE: 1,596 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
Apparently, Beck's Malibu house pales in comparison to his Hancock Park palace, which has six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and a recording studio/rehearsal space in the back. That place was previously up for $9 mill but after losing an asston of money, Beck and wife Marissa Ribisi delisted. Ol' Beck's come a long way from crashing on Silver Lake couches and singing “Satan Gave Me a Taco”!
5. Kevin Griffin, singer/songwriter/guitarist Better Than Ezra
Location: Silver Lake
Price: $1,499,000
Beds: 3
Baths: 3
Sq. Ft.: 2,958
Lot Size: 4,791 Sq. Ft.
Listing: Stunning 2005 redesign of a 1957 mid-century home by Tony Unhruh, at the request of Scott Santoro, an animator with Disney Studios, includes an approx 1000 sq ft addition to the original floorplan. Nestled on the hill in prime Westside of Silverlake, this home with 3 BED/3BA + den, FLR, FDR, kit, playroom/library home speaks to those who love the “post and beam” style w/ exposed steel & walls of glass, open floorplan, natural light, decks/yard space on every level, a flat grassy yard w/ three Australian bonsai tea trees, GREAT Views. Tranquil, zen and breathtaking, this is a perfect example of great architecture in Silverlake. Currently celebrity owned and perfect for entertaining this can be a quiet haven in the city or a party house for the young and energetic.
4. Tom DeLonge
Location: Rancho Santa Fe
Price: $4.995 Million
Size: 5 bedrooms, 6,500 square feet of space on 1.1 acre.
Features: Vanishing edge pool and an attached guest home with a den and kitchenette, gourmet kitchen, and large master suite with spa bath.
The Blink-182 lead whiner has evidently taken after Vanilla Ice and has entered the real estate game. Yet, on this house near San Diego, Delonge bit the big one and lost about a million bones.
3. Michael Jackson
Featuring: 7 bedrooms, 7 garage spaces, 12 fireplaces, and 13 bathrooms. 17,171 square foot on a 1.26 acre lot.
This gargantuan mansion was Michael Jackson's last rental home and where he died in June 2009. If this fact doesn't creep you out, perhaps you'll be wigged out by learning of the gaudy building's true owner: Ed Hardy's CEO Hubert Guez. Ewwwwwwwwww.
2. Kanye West
Location: Hollywood Hills
Price: $3,995,000
Size: 4,214 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms
Out of all the houses up for sale in 2010, Kanye's Hollywood Hills hideaway actually looks pretty great. From the pictures, we can see Kanye's killer art collection, including Murakamis, Warhols, and some choice Jonathan Seliger sculptures. This isn't a rapper's paradise you'd see on cribs, this is a home and a gallery in one. We're not so sure about the kiddie areas [Q: “How do you know when it's bedtime at Neverland Ranch?” A: “When the big hand goes over the little hand.” Surely not too soon, right?], but that combination fish tank bathtub is pretty amazing.
And the #1 mansion for sale is…
1. Ronnie James Dio
Price: $3,333,000
Address 4634 Encino Avenue

No matter how many items Dio bought from 17th century whatever, it still doesn't change the fact this looks like a goth version of the 'Golden Girls.”
