In one way or another, we have all experienced hunger late at night, and this causes us to scavenge a stash of snacks that hopefully exist in our fridges and cupboards. If you find yourself looking at an empty space where the snacks should have been, then we have a few snack recommendations for when you get the munchies. 

These snacks are easily accessible and not pricey at all! Plus, this list would contain both healthy and unhealthy options. The reason why the list contains both these types of snacks is due to the varying tastes of each individual. 

Four main types of snacks to eat when you get the munchies

Snacks are classified into four different types; savory snacks, sweet snacks, healthy snacks (mostly plant-based), and the general category of “others.” 

Now, the type of snack you would choose to consume is entirely up to what you are craving.

1. Cereal and milk 

One of the best food combinations to ever exist would have to be cereal and milk. It takes very minimal effort to prepare this food, and it can be found in almost any kind of household. 

If you do not have this specific snack at home, then grabbing one from the nearest grocery store should be easy since the majority of them carry all kinds of cereal and milk. 

The type of cereal to choose is up to the buyer. They can either choose to get a healthy one or not. For instance, whole-grain, low-sugar cereals are great for those who are avoiding unhealthy foods. 

On the other hand, those who prefer their cereals sweet have the option to go for cereals that contain high sugar levels. Some examples would be Kellogg’s Froot Loops, Post Golden Crisp, Kellogg’s Honey Smacks, Capn’ Crunch, Marshmallow Fruity Pebbles, and so much more. 

2. Popcorn 

Another famous snack people consume in both the cinemas and at home is be popcorn. This household staple is a common snack since it is delicious and easy to prepare. You just pop one inside a microwave and wait for the burst of popping sounds. 

The thing about popcorn that makes it such a great snack is the variety of flavors it offers, such as butter, white cheese, caramel corn, kettle corn, cheddar cheese, and garlic. 

Brands like Jolly Time, Cousin Willie’s, Pop-Secret, and Act II are all common and offer delicious microwavable popcorn. 

3. Crackers 

Foods like Cheeze-It used to fill up lunchboxes and were always part of a preschooler’s day. Today, we see adults enjoying crackers like these since they are tasty and light on the stomach too! 

It just goes to show how incredibly popular crackers are. 

This is just one example of the hundreds of crackers that can be bought in supermarkets. It is safe to say that crackers also serve as a comfort food for many, which is why it is a great recommendation for those who get the munchies. 

Some crackers that can easily treat the munchies would be Ritz Bits, Cheeze-It, Keebler Club Crackers, and Wheat Thins Original. 

4. Cookies 

Who would forget the iconic black chocolate sandwich cookie that every kid used to twist, lick, and dunk in a glass of milk? An Oreo is the epitome of what a cookie is. This is not an overreaction to the cookie, since it is indeed a very popular cookie that tops any other cookie brand you can think of. 

As a matter of fact, according to Guinness World Records, Oreo has been the #1 best selling cookie in the world with a total sales of approximately 500 billion since its introduction in the United States in 1912! 

One way to get rid of the munchies would definitely be Oreos paired with a cold or warm glass of milk. If Oreos are not your cup of tea, then try other cookie brands like Chips Ahoy, Pepperidge Farm Montauk Milk Chocolate Cookies, Mrs. Fields Semi-sweet Chocolate Chip, and Keebler E.L. Fudge Original Cookies. 

5. Nutrition bars 

For those who are getting the munchies but are cautious about their weight, they can opt for nutrition bars. There are a variety of nutrition bars on the market as of the moment, some of which are KIND Protein Bar, :ratio Toasted Almond Bar, RXBAR, Built Bar, Good Measure Bar, and Perfect Bar. 

6. Noodles 

There is something about noodles that reminds us so much of our lean college days, because they are affordable and delicious at the same time. Whipping up instant ramen noodles when one gets the munchies is the most satisfying feeling in the world. 

The best thing about ramen noodles is that you can add your own twist to them. For instance, if you want creamy noodles, all you have to do is add milk to the noodles as you cook them, or if you want something cheesy, all you need is any kind of cheese that melts easily and you are all set! 

One brand that would truly tingle your tastebuds is the NongShim Shin Black Noodle Soup. If you are not fond of spicy noodles, then Nissin Top Ramen Noodle Soup would be a safe bet. 

7. Salads 

If you do not mind spending a bit of extra time in making your food to get rid of the munchies, then salads would be a great choice! The sky is the limit when it comes to salads, since you are free to include any kind of ingredient you like. 

You can throw in some chicken in there or toss some cheeses and whatnot, it is completely up to you.
