Australian dance-rock trio Midnight Juggernauts have all the bombast of a Shiny Toy Guns, but, instead of an emo bent, the synth-pounders from Down Under have managed to put a psychedelic twist on their bottom-heavy dance-rock.

Their new album “The Crystal Axis” puts Pink Floyd at the controls of the disco, and puts the disco squarely in outer space, with comfortably numbing beats, explosive guitars and shapeshifting electronic textures. (And if you don't believe the shapeshifting part, check out the video for “Vital Signs.”)

The threesome is something of a known quantity to SoCal audiences — the onetime Justice tourmates won hearts and bruised eardrums at Coachella in 2008, and a visit to the Roxy last autumn proved they could muster a sound too large for a club.

Pack your earplugs for the Aussies' dates in L.A. this week — tonight they take on the Echo, and on Tuesday they do Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace.

Elsewhere: East L.A. dance-punk kids Funeral Party, signed to RCA and their debut album “Golden Age of Nowhere” coming in early 2011, play the Viper Room with New Politics. … And it's a full house at the RSVP-only It's a School Night at Bardot, with Gram Rabbit, Ferraby Lionheart and an acoustic set from Mercury Prize nominee Villagers.

Also: It's the final Monday of July's free residencies in the Eastside clubs — Summer Darling (with Kissing Cousins supporting) at Spaceland; Mississippi Man at the Echoplex (with the Pity Party supporting); the Outline at the Bootleg Theater (with the Franks); and Yellow Red Sparks at the Silverlake Lounge (with the Sweet Hurt and the Color Turning). … And there's Jimmy Gnecco at the Hotel Cafe and the Emotron at Pehrspace.
