This evening, a hometown hero returns to Santa Monica. We write of celebrated cookbook author and restaurant reviewer Colman Andrews. Offspring of a radio soap scribe and an actress, former student at Loyola Marymount, City College and UCLA, Andrews is a co-founder of Saveur magazine and its second editor-in-chief, the recipient of eight James Beard Awards, the author of numerous cookbooks including The Country Cooking of Ireland — his latest and the occasion of this happy event — and the current editorial director of The Daily Meal.

Tonight, at Farmshop in the Brentwood Country Mart, Andrews will sign books, schmooze and field questions at a four-course, family-style feast featuring dishes from The Country Cooking of Italy. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with passed antipasto in the Farmshop market, followed by the dinner (Agnello Arrosto! Sbrisolana!) in the dining room. Seating will begin around 7:15 p.m.

The dinner costs $90 and includes a signed copy of the book. Reservations are highly recommended, so step on it if you want to go. For more info, click away.
