Not a great day for Janice Hahn, the L.A. councilwoman who hopes to be the state's next lieutenant governor. This afternoon her hometown paper endorsed her rival, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
UPDATE: Hahn canceled her subscription to the Times.
“I don't want the L.A. Times on my doorstep ever again,” she said.
The editorial
concedes that Hahn knows the job, but they're not so comfortable with
the idea that she would be a heartbeat away from the governor's office.
Newsom,
for all his cockiness, is a dynamic leader — one who is more suited
than Hahn to guide the state, and one who in the meantime is more
likely to use the platform of his position in a creative and
constructive fashion, even if he's not currently an expert on the
duties of the state Lands Commission. California needs Newsom's combination of brashness and smarts.
The Times endorsed newly confirmed Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado on the Republican side.
