The Replacements

Tim (Sire)

The Ziggens Love Tim: Bert Susanka of SoCal cowpunksurfabilly band the Ziggens told us about his love for a Replacements classic.

Bert Susanka: My favorite album is Tim by the Replacements. It is the first Replacements record I bought and it floored me. Despite the production being less than stellar, the songs, performance and overall greatness of Tim changed my world.

The Replacements Tim cover 1

(Sire)

I’d been hearing about this non conformist quartet from Wisconsin but had yet to pick up the cassette. Then I made the purchase and the songs were like they were written for me. This was my band now and I immediately went out and bought everything they’d recorded.

Those albums didn’t let me down either. Paul Westerberg is a writer like no other. Tim gave me clearance as a songwriter that I didn’t have to pick only one musical style when writing and that vulnerability and risk taking is a beautiful thing.

The Ziggens Love Tim: The Ziggens’ new album Oregon is out now.

According to the press release: “It’s been an amazing 30 years for Bert, Brad, Dickie, and Jon. Making records, touring and influencing dozens of bands that now worship at the altar of TheZiggens has been their passion. Harmony singing, laughter, and pure high volume fun describe their one-of-a-kind live show. Hailing from Surf City CA, it makes sense that their music gravitated toward reverb-drenched surf vibes, but the beautiful ballads and tight harmonies set them apart from the other fish in the sea of music. Brad Nowell of Sublime called them his favorite band as the Ziggens were the opening act for Sublime for many years. The group did portions of 2 Warped Tours, put out 9 records, and toured with Dick Dale, The Ventures, No Doubt, Slightly Stoopid, NRBQ and The Beat Farmers, among countless others.”
