REDCAT moves out of its usual digs in Disney Hall to the larger and equally historic environs of the Million Dollar Theater for the U.S. premiere of Tempest Without a Body from New Zealand's MAU company. The company's director and choreographer Lemi Ponifasio weaves dance and theater into what press reports describe as an explosive re-envisioning of Shakespeare's The Tempest. The Samoan-born Ponifasio focuses the action on a Maori activist, but gives voice to a larger reflection on increasing state intrusions on personal liberty and particularly excoriates the use of unlawful detention.
