Symba Can’t Win for Nothing: Oakland-born rapper Symba has released a new music video for the track “Can’t Win for Nothing,” and it’s superb. The song is about that soul-destroying feeling that, not matter now hard you work and how much you try to do the right thing, you can’t get ahead. Meanwhile the people not taking that approach seem to be doing well.
Meanwhile the video, by Keoni Mars, sees Symba and an exhausted woman making those same points. By the end, it’s heartbreaking to see that the lady is sick of doing the right things and she decides that she’s done.
According to the press release, “Symba raps just as hard as he hustles, inspiring and impressing with breathless flows, eloquently elite lyricism, and a propensity to grind without pause. Symba lifted himself out of rough circumstances in the Bay Area with a prolific string of independent projects before the mainstream embraced him on 2020’s Don’t Run From R.A.P.”
The track is taken from his new album Results Take Time.
“Accompanied by A-list guests such as 2 Chainz, Ty Dolla $ign, Moneybagg Yo, Jayson Cash, and more, he earned widespread acclaim,” reads the press release. “XXL christened him “a classic lyricist with modern flows,”Billboard described him as ‘a step closer to becoming a forceful name in hip-hop,’ and Flaunt attested, ‘Symba’s time is now.’ It certainly feels like it. His fiery lyrics and nimble delivery quickly caught the attention of the hip-hop world after his LA Leakers Freestyle went viral and received praise from everyone from LeBron James and Kevin Durant to Dr. Dre and The Game.”
