Los Angeles loves a secret, especially one whispered from a hillside estate where the night seduces and pulls you into its dark corners. On December 13, SNCTM returns to the city with Aria Noir, a winter opera that merges high art with high heat, wrapping its guests in a world that feels part geisha memoir and part European decadence.
The estate becomes a stage. Masked vocalists drift above the pool, their arias echoing off stone and water. Below them, aquatic sirens twist through candlelight as performers emerge in shifting tableaus that move between discipline, mythology and sensuality. Passages from historical erotic literature thread through the air. It is lush. It is operatic. It is very L.A., assuming the city still had the nerve to be its true self in public.
Guests circle from tableaux to play spaces as if wandering through a living gallery where nothing stays still for long. Everyone looks as if they have been styled by the ghost of a Parisian couturier with a fetish for restraint and ruin. And that is before the opera even peaks.
“We are transforming the erotic into something you do not just watch, but fall into,” says Dawn Jansen, SNCTM’s artistic director for the Los Angeles market.
For the Devoted Few: A Two-Night Descent into the Exclusive Universe
Of course, every opera has its elite guests, and SNCTM is courting just three couples with an even more indulgent experience. The night before the main event, a select circle of guests will check into a hotel for a two-night stay that blurs the line between dinner party, salon and sensual initiation.
Inside the hotel’s newly designed suites, antique French easels sit beside hand-painted Chinese dynasty wall panels, and every object seems chosen for its ability to hold a secret. The rooms become the first act of the evening. One of the suites hosts a private performance staged for the small group and folded into the mythology behind Aria Noir.
The dinner itself is a ritual. Japanese-influenced dishes arrive as part of a narrative arc, served between whispered interludes and quiet surprises that draw from the same historical and cultural inspirations as the event. Over the course of the night, the couples connect with each other and with SNCTM’s founder, creative team, and Dominus Council, gaining rare insight into the philosophy and inner world behind Aria Noir. Jansen calls it “a deeply intimate appetizer to the opera, an immersion into the world before the world.”
If winter in Los Angeles usually feels like a suggestion, Aria Noir invites its guests into complete immersion. For some, it’s a single unforgettable evening. For a select few, it’s an entire world to indulge.
