Maybe not the most appetizing moniker, but Infected Mushroom’s psy-trance trips sure have a unique flavor, especially in the flesh. The Israeli-bred, L.A.-based group have been meshing rock-star swagger and aggressive, hypnotic groove scapes onstage for years now, and thanks to some feral live performances, they’ve grown quite organically into festival- and dance-floor faves. With the line between head banging and body bumping all but obliterated by the new wave of electro-darlings, we fully expect this crew’s cuts to spread like a fungus. Avalon, 1735 Vine St., Hlywd.; Sat., May 10, 10 p.m.-4 a.m.; over 21; www.avalonhollywood.com.
Warm up for the Mushies earlier in the day at the venerable Standard downtown’s rooftop, where Dub Frequency presents Beestings and Nosebleeds, a fun-in-the-sun affair featuring Them Jeans, Dan Oh, Mando, Gina Turner and guests. Heat and hijinks guaranteed. 550 Flower St., dwntwn.; Sat., May 10, 2-8 p.m.; over 21. RSVP at www.dubfrequency.com.
And kick off the weekend on Cahuenga (if you dare), where Standard regulars the Droog dudes (Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe) party at the Room this week with Berlin beatster Phonique, who’ll spin house and techno with a Euro flair, for his first North American appearance. 1626 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hlywd.; Fri., May 9, 9:30 p.m.-2 a.m.; check out www.myspace.com/droog_la for details.
