42-Year-Old Onyx Man Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near Doyle Ranch Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 29, 2024) – Saturday, Sean Gordon Stewart died and three were hurt in a two-car crash on Highway 178. At approximately 10:31 a.m., police were called to the site just west of Doyle Ranch Road, situated between Weldon and Onyx.

According to authorities, an eastbound Subaru and a westbound Toyota collided head-on under circumstances yet to be determined. The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene by medical responders.

The deceased has been identified as Sean Gordon Stewart, aged 42, from Onyx. The Subaru’s 59-year-old passenger, as well as the 21-year-old driver of the Toyota and their 23-year-old passenger, were all taken to Kern Medical for further medical attention.

Emergency crews temporarily closed off the area for clearance operations. Bakersfield Officials are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to reach out to the California Highway Patrol at 661-396-6600.
