With shades of Jared Laughner, the man accused of the worst mass killing Orange County history gave authorities a creepy, shit-eating grin for one of his booking photos.

Suspect Scott Dekraai's mugshot is eerie and certainly nightmarish for any of the relatives of the fallen.

The picture came to a light on a day when Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said …

… he would pursue the death penalty against Dekraai, a 41-year-old from Huntington Beach who was charged today with 8 counts of murder and 1 count of attempted murder.

The man is accused of donning body armor gunning down his ex-wife at a Seal Beach beauty salon Wednesday before opening fire on eight others, with only one person surviving. Reports indicated that Dekraai was in the middle of a custody battle with his ex over their 8-year-old boy.

An emotional Rackauckas said during a news conference broadcast on KNX 1070 Newsradio today that the suspect was armed with three guns when he went on a rampage while “the son that he professed to love was sitting in the principal's office waiting for his mom or dad to pick him up.”

The D.A. said he expected an insanity defense from Dekraai's lawyers.

City News Service published the names of the victims:

The eight people killed Wednesday were the salon's owner, Randy Lee Fannin, 62; Victoria Ann Buzzo, 54; Lucia Bernice Kondas, 65; Laura Lee Elody, 46; Christy Lynn Wilson, 47; hair stylist Michelle Marie Fournier, 48, Dekraai's ex-wife; Michelle Daschbach Fast, 47, and David Caouette, 64.

Another woman who was shot — 73-year-old Hattie Stretz — remains in critical condition at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
