It sounds like a scene out of Pulp Fiction: A car hits a utility pole at South West Avenue and Pico Boulevard near Country Club Park; the pole falls onto a pedestrian, killing him; a nurse filling up on gas nearby runs to the victim's aid; a woman jumps in the nurse's abandoned car; the nurse runs back and tries to get her to stop; the alleged carjacker drives away, as the nurse hangs on to the side of the vehicle, for 20 yards before the good samaritan is shaken off; cops find and arrest a suspect not long afterward.

This all really happened about 3:15 a.m. Sunday, police say. The victim of the felled poll was identified as 45-year-old German Andrade. The man who drove into the poll in a 2008 Dodge Caliber, 27-year-old Jasen Jack, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and jailed in lieu of $110,000 bail.

The alleged vehicle-snatcher, 28-year-old Deserie Guzman, was arrested on suspicion of carjacking. The nurse was not identified. Anyone who witnessed the events was asked to call Los Angeles police West Traffic Detective Stephanie Banks at (213) 485-4022.
