For years, an anonymous warehouse in West L.A. held a massive collection of treasures from the Soviet world. Now the Wende Museum is moving its archive of outlandish objects from the Cold War era into its new, more public-facing facility in Culver City, which opens this weekend. As Russia occupies headlines today, the collection of the Wende Museum is a reminder what it was like to live in the Soviet Empire at its heyday, and during its decline. Displaying everything from colorful busts of Lenin and artwork portraying everyday people to ordinary household objects and furniture, the museum is a commemoration of the wax and wane of empires and ideology. L.A. Weekly photographer Ted Soqui tagged along as the museum unboxed its collection at the new Culver City space.
