Would like to take a chance and embrace your pace of peace by comprehending the raw emotions of Sungyull Koo’s debut poetry collection, “Pole Pole.” Within the pages of this book, the author offers a gentle yet profound reminder to his readers that sometimes, the most meaningful progress comes when we take things slowly rather than rushing towards success and possibilities. Surely, reading this book filled with inspiration from the life-changing climb up Mount Kilimanjaro in 2016. Koo captures the essence of living with intention, patience, and quiet determination in this heartfelt collection.
“Pole Pole”—a Swahili phrase meaning “slowly, slowly”—was the mantra repeated by Koo’s Tanzanian guide as they ascended the iconic mountain. What started as practical advice for conquering steep trails soon became a metaphor for life, one that Koo now explores through his carefully crafted verses. In a society that glorifies busyness, Pole Pole is a refreshing call to savor life’s small moments, to be fully present, and to trust that taking your time leads to unexpected rewards.
A Poetic Testament to Mindful Living
With this collection, Koo bridges the gap between the physical and the spiritual, using his personal experiences as a springboard to explore universal themes. Through lyrical reflections and vivid imagery, Pole Pole guides readers on a journey that is both introspective and uplifting.
A Fusion of Art and Inspiration
The book is more than just a collection of poems; it’s a rich tapestry of art and storytelling. Koo enhances his verses with illustrations inspired by his recent travels through Italy, where he encountered timeless masterpieces and architectural wonders. The result is a visually and emotionally captivating work that echoes the serenity and grace he’s learned to cultivate in his own life.
From Fast-Paced to Intentional Living
For Koo, who spent decades thriving in the hustle and bustle of Seoul and New York City, adopting the “Pole Pole” mindset was nothing short of transformative. The book is a celebration of that transformation—proof that slowing down doesn’t mean falling behind, but rather finding a new kind of strength and clarity. In a poetic twist of fate, this shift allowed him to channel his thoughts into this debut collection, which he lovingly dedicates to everyone on a journey toward a more mindful, meaningful life.
A Purpose Beyond the Pages
“Pole Pole” is also a labor of love with a mission. Proceeds from the book will go toward educational initiatives that Koo is passionate about supporting. His year-long dedication to visiting elementary schools and inspiring young minds is a reflection of the values expressed in his poetry—taking the time to nurture the future, one child at a time. This release marks a significant milestone as Koo continues to align his creative output with his philanthropic goals.
Looking Ahead: A New Chapter in Storytelling
Koo’s journey doesn’t end here. He is already working on his next project—a collection of short stories and travel essays set to release later this year. True to the spirit of “Pole Pole,” he’s pacing himself, embracing the process, and trusting that each new step will lead him exactly where he needs to be.
