Even an atmospheric river couldn’t stop Levity’s LASERSHIP from touching down in Los Angeles this past weekend, illuminating The Shrine Expo Hall for two sold-out nights on November 14 and 15, marking the beginning of their “LASERSHIP” tour.
Despite historic rainfall across the city (and a scrapped Saturday daytime party because of it), the DJ trio consisting of John Hauldren, PJ Carberry, and Josh Tarum brought all that bottled-up energy and more to their largest headline shows to date. On Friday evening, drenched fans sprinted through the puddled Shrine parking lot, soaked pashminas clinging to shoulders, bright Levity merch peeking out beneath rain jackets. The room was already packed when I walked in, buzzing with that unmistakable pre-set electricity floating in the air.
During supporting artist Moore Kismet’s final transitions, the anticipation felt like it was tightening by the minute. And when the house lights rose for the changeover, I anticipated the usual ambient noise or soft neutral house track. Instead? Star Wars. Classic, cinematic, horns-blaring Star Wars. I am personally a fan of any artist who commits to a bit, so the moment the room filled with the opening swell of John Williams’ score, I knew we were about to be transported somewhere completely unserious and wonderfully theatrical.

Fifteen minutes later, excited screams ricocheted through the hall as Levity emerged inside their towering “LASERSHIP” — a massive UFO-like structure that swallowed the entire stage with an elevated DJ booth glowing from its center. It felt like a spaceship landing at warp speed in South LA.
One thing Levity does exceptionally well is heighten energy and hold it. Their breakout moment, a surprise fill-in set at one of the smallest stages at Electric Forest Music Festival in 2023, that went viral on social media, proved that. Even through grainy phone screens, people felt that raw pulse, that kinetic joy, and locked in instantly. That moment not only put them on the map, it launched them into the stratosphere.
The Shrine shows were a continuation of that rise. I’ve rarely seen a crowd hum with such steady, unbroken electricity from the first drop to the last. At points, the entire room felt alive with lasers sweeping in choreographed waves overhead while bursts of rainbow-tinted pyrotechnics shot from the stage, adding flashes of heat and color to the already electric atmosphere. Levity’s LASERSHIP set burst with their signature vibrant drops, cheeky flips, melodic builds, and fully committed theme moments including “talking to aliens” onscreen and blasting bass-coded messages in response. They’ve really curated their concert to feel like a guided expedition through their universe.

Since their 2023 viral ascent, Levity’s momentum hasn’t slowed. With their breakout track “Flip It” building over 17 million Spotify streams, notable collaborations like their song “One for You” with dubstep superstar ALLEYCVT, and a string of unforgettable festival appearances including a return to Electric Forest this past summer for a massive B2B with fellow bass music heavy hitters Tape B and CRANKDAT, Levity have cemented themselves as one of the most talked-about dance acts of the moment. They have also recently announced their return to the desert as they make their way from the Do Lab in 2025 to a formal Coachella debut in April 2026.
As the night wound down, the trio paused to thank the crowd, and PJ took a brief moment on the mic to acknowledge how full-circle the evening felt for him. He shared that he grew up in the Los Angeles area and had family, including his parents, in the audience, making the sold-out Shrine show somewhat of a dream come true. Inside the hall, the energy stayed bright and easy despite the storm outside: people smiling at strangers, dancing without hesitation, soaking in every last drop. And with momentum like this, it’s clear Levity’s flight path is nowhere near its peak.
