Driver Arrested after Killing Passenger in Highway 99 Car Crash

GALT, CA (May 6, 2021) – Sunday morning, authorities arrested a driver for manslaughter after a deadly car crash on Highway 99.

The fatal crash occurred around 3:46 a.m., along the southbound lanes just north of Twin Cities Road.

In addition, reports stated that the driver of a southbound 2002 Chevy Silverado drove at about 70 MPH.

Suddenly, the driver veered left and struck a wood post-metal guardrail in the center median.

The car then jumped across two lanes and rolled over in a dirt shoulder as it ejected the passenger. Due to the impact of the crash, one person died at the scene.

Additionally, police say two occupants inside the Silverado were not wearing seatbelts at the time.

Later on, CHP officials discovered evidence of intoxication from the driver and charged him with felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

The identity of the deceased passenger remains undisclosed at this time. More information will be released once available.
